In a promising move to accelerate the adoption of privacy-compliant digital identities across the European Union, Privado ID has teamed up with Telefónica Tech, the strategic digital business unit of Spanish multinational telecom giant Telefónica Group, who has joined the Privado ID ecosystem as a systems integrator.

This strategic partnership aims to facilitate the use of verifiable credentials by integrating TrustOS, the managed blockchain service developed by Telefónica Tech that helps simplify and streamline Web3 adoption. The collaboration with Privado ID also underscores the company's commitment to advancing privacy technology and meeting the evolving needs of digital identity in a rapidly changing regulatory landscape.

A New Chapter for Digital Identity in Europe

Privado ID, renowned for its dedication to privacy and security, sees the integration with Telefónica Tech as a significant milestone in its mission to provide state-of-the-art digital identity solutions. By leveraging Telefónica Tech’s technological prowess and TrustOS platform, Privado ID is poised to offer its users even more robust, secure, and compliant identity services.

“We are delighted to integrate Privado ID technology with our TrustOS platform, advancing the adoption of digital identity solutions that ensure strict compliance with eIDAS2 requirements. Telefónica Tech's experience and expertise in both blockchain-based solutions and systems integration puts us in a unique position to drive the future of digital identity, ensuring privacy, security, and compliance and pushing its adoption not only in the public sector, but also following the TrustOS philosophy in private companies of all sectors, sizes, and technology profiles.”

José Luis Núñez, Global Head of Blockchain and Web3 at Telefónica Tech

The European Digital Identity Regulation, or elDAS2, requires all EU Member States to provide Digital Identity Wallets to their citizens, with strict technical specifications and certifications. In the future, these European Digital Identities will be available to EU citizens, residents, and businesses who want to identify themselves or verify certain personal information.

As the European Union prepares to implement eIDAS2, the demand for robust, privacy-centric digital identity solutions has never been greater. The regulation aims to create a more secure and standardized framework for electronic identification and trust services across Europe, making it imperative for businesses and individuals to adopt compliant and innovative identity solutions. Privado ID and Telefónica Tech are well-positioned to meet these regulatory demands, offering businesses and individuals across Europe the tools they need to adopt secure, compliant digital identities.

A Unified Vision for the Future

The partnership includes developing various proofs-of-concept for various use cases, addressing urgent needs in the digital identity space. One of the first projects is age verification, which aims to provide secure access to adult content and gambling platforms while maintaining strict privacy standards.

Telefónica Tech will also add the ability to issue certifications in a verifiable credential format to its content certification service. This will enable users to automatically issue certifications—such as training diplomas, academic qualifications, or attendance at seminars and courses—as verifiable credentials and load them into digital wallets. Other use cases include digital national identities, e-signature solutions, and privacy-preserving loyalty programs.

“Empowering large companies to reliably integrate innovative technologies, such as our advanced zero-knowledge proof-based digital identity platform, is key to widespread adoption of self-sovereign identity. Telefónica Tech’s size and depth of experience will go a long way to bring corporate clients into the Privado ID ecosystem.”

David Schwartz, CEO and Co-Founder at Privado ID

As Europe moves towards a more standardized, privacy-centric approach to digital identity, the partnership between Telefónica Tech and Privado ID promises to be a driving force in this transformation.
